C-124 mystery...really not a mystery.

The C-124 was really cut up...
I understand the fuselage was sliced horizontally, and flown by C-5 to WRAFB.
Must of been a heck of a reassembly job.

From what I was told by a gentleman who work for the CAF was that the CAF was to keep the aircraft in good shape but that when the Air force can and inspected them they were less that happy and decided to pull them out.

Yes there was a B-47 and a Canbera also.

Miscue,

When were you there? Maybe we know each other.

I was living in the Harlingen area 1973-1994, then again 1996-1998.

I was there from 1961 to 1999, did you ever work there?

That's the way I remember it. We used to go deer hunting in the valley back then and my dad turned me loose for a few hours. I remember the Mosi parts out behind the hangar as well.

Back in the mid eighties, I cannibilized numerous cannon plugs and other assorted bits and pieces from the -97 and -124 to get the BT-13 from Harlingen to Conroe for the Big Thicket Squadron.

I lived for several weekends in the BOQ in the CAF Bomber Hangar. Ahh yes, friday nights, swigging beers and watching "Elvira" and the cheesey horror flicks, with airplane noise in the background, those were the days.
