I did a search, and John Mckittrick is a WIX member. He only had 3 posts, but mentioned he bought Lou IV in December 06. Very sad....friends & family also have my thoughts and prayers.

Does anyone knw how many LouIV Mustangs there have been? I thought Paul Poberezny used to own this one, but come to find out it was a different plane.

The a/c was formerly owned by Chuck Greenhill.

"Paul" was a totally different a/c in a similiar colour scheme.

Pilot killed in Sunday crash identified

Authorities this morning identified the Thousand Oaks man who was killed when the plane he was flying crashed at Camarillo Airport Sunday.

The pilot was John McKittrick, 42, said Senior Deputy Medical Examiner Craig Stevens.

McKittrick was in the midst of his first solo flight about 8:15 a.m. when the vintage P-51D Mustang he was flying flipped near the south end of the airport's runway, authorities said.

He was pronounced dead at 8:35 a.m.

The privately-owned P-51D Mustang is a World War II-era fighter plane.

Another sad day for the warbird community. This aircraft is the 3rd civil warbird to marked as Lou IV. The lst one was N13410, 44-72483.
The 2nd was N51TK (first use of this regristration) , 44-73436. The 3rd was N51TK (2nd use of this regristration), 44-63350. Photos of all three from my collection below:

May I ask what may be a delicate question? Why are no provisions made for rollover structures in many restorations? Harry Doan lost his life in a similar fashion in his AD-4 about 12 years ago, as I recall... it's an awful tragedy to lose a pilot, and it seems odd to me that more folks don't look at adding such a structure to their aircraft.

This is by no means an indictment of the pilot, God rest his soul, and I hope everyone understands that.

I don't think a roll over cage would have helped in this case, as Harry Doan nosed over where this was a little different situation. A sad day for all......

Actually, I had heard that Harry Doan had undone his seat belt prior to his roll-over accident. No less sad of an incident though.
