This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Without the WIX, I never would have gotten the opportunity to meet Gary and design and paint the nose art on Ol '927. For that I am eternally grateful. 8) And of course much to my wife's lament, my airplane bug is even stronger.

I really need to rally the troops here. And by the way Sweden, we also want Jemtland and Härjedalen (formerly Norwegian territory, now part of Sweden) back right now... :axe:

Good to see Blighty at Number Two. I'd hoped for the top spot, but 65000 warbird enthusiasts in this benighted Isle would be just too much to aim for!

Echo the other comments Scott, it's a great site which I miss when I am away!

Cheers from one of the 7494...

Thanks for giving us a home.

Good memory, The Vintage Aviation Refugee Center was a 2nd attempt to save the WW community. The first was the Vintage Aviation Forum, which lasted for like three days after WW went down, then I created VARC, which after a few months was changed to WIX. Been awhile hasn't it?

Come on Shay, it's 2007... we passed 7,000 YEARS ago ;) :D

Hey,

I'd believe Canada's numbers... I am addicted to WIX and I probably account for... hmm.... at least 20 times a day.

and yes, Canada's population is growing... it's starting to near the 8000 mark. We're all very happy about that. Soon we'll be able to Call Canada a City with that kind of population... haha

Cheers,

David

P.S. Scott, thanks for the information about the site traffic. It is really interesting. I love it. - Cheers

Hey Scott,

Just sitting here pounding down some brewskies while eating a brat and was wondering how the frozen tundra (aka: cheesehead land) rates for number of wixers? :drink3:

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion in regards to all of the lurkers here and how to get some of them to show up and share some of their knowledge? If at all possible, when someone like myself asks a dumb question, could the "experts" refrain from flaming us dummies quite so harshly? On a couple of occasions I have had to bite my tongue and not send someone an ugly PM when I have asked questions. If all of the experts here could take a deep breath and try extra hard to not go off on people when they ask something which seems silly or trivial to them, we might start seeing some of the lurkers joining in the fun here! For the most part, my time here has been exceptionally fun and educational at the same time. Given enough time (say 50 years or so?) I might be at the same level as some of you other smart fellers...and ladies

I'll stake the claim for Japan.

Warbird Kid, there isn't much going on over here, that's the biggest problem for me.

6trn4brn;
You are right concerning the few seemingly aggressive responses some people get, but I think some of the "harseness" of the replies can be traced to the fact that everyone has to type their response, not speak it.
We are verbal people, and the tone in someone's voice can entirely change how someone "hears" a statement. We don't have that luxrury on WIX.
Writing can be a difficult chore at best, and to have the skill to carefully word a response so that it is clear, simple and IN THE TONE MEANT BY THE AUTHOR, is very hard.
I write everday for work and have to be creative, so I try to measure my WIX replies and questions before I post. Besides attempting to be sure everything's spelled correctly, I want to make sure readers don't take what I wrote in the wrong way.

I think adding emoticons where appropriate can help, even though sometimes I think they're at little lame. (I still use them!) :)

I also use brackets (as you can see) to soften a reply or use it as a clarifier and if you noticed, after the above sentence, the words in the brackets and emoticon both help to "soften" the word "lame".

Remember, many people find writing difficult enough, let alone worrying about how the final communication will be received. In the end, it's important to review what you wrote to make sure the "meaning and tone" are what you were trying to achieve.

I know there are many on this forum that seem to have short, curt, reply habits. This can make an answer seem cold and uncaring, but the fact that they took the time to write the answer says a lot from the start. Also, if you spoke with that person on the phone, I'm sure you wouldn't get the same impression.

I'm not trying to be some type of "communication" policeman, but in order to draw more people in, we might want to remember that there are more people reading the questions and replies than just the two people who wrote them, and according to the numbers, A LOT MORE! :D

SO IF YOU ARE LURKING OUT THERE, COME ON, JOIN IN! THE WATER'S GREAT!!!!! :spit2

Blue skies,
Jerry

Indeed, anyone lurking should join in on the fun. It's a great feeling to be "In The Loop" of the warbird world. I feel so connected, but since I'm still learning I would have to say I'm still no expert. All I can put forward to the group is my knowledge of BC aviation and the goings on in the Vancouver area.

I agree that some responses to questions may sound harsher than they actually are because it's hard to know the tone of the written words.

Cheers,

David

Sorry Scott.....
