This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

The pink Warhawk was the mount of a WWII aviatrix. IIRC, Ms Parish was a ferry pilot . That she flew her aircraft into the 90's is fantastic. that she painted it pink , her choice. Should it be painted in authentic WWII colors? I'm of the opinion that her use of the aircraft constitutes a portion of history that also needs to be addressed, as does that period between the end of the war and today. When does the period of the post war racing get to be remembered with flying examples and museum exhibits of their own? I'm for right now. AFAIC the quasi military look is getting well worn and humdrum

If I' had my 'drothers, and no disrespect for Mr. Archer, Mr. Weeks should have honored the late great Paul Mantz with an original paint scheme on P-51C NX1204.

Bill--

How cool is that: a segue back to Spits...via a pink Spitfire!

Steve N--

Yep, I knew about the K'zoo collection grounding itself a few years back, and also that Suzanne Parish had "parked" the Kittyhawk earlier still. I keep hoping that decision may someday be reversed...even if only for one aircraft at a time... After Sue retired from flying the P-40, I saw a photo--B&W, sadly enough--in one of the mags, showing Sue flying along in a nice Beech T-34 painted the same as the P-40! Anyone got a (colour) shot of that to share?? And what became of the T-34?

There is also a Mk XIV at Camarillo that is undergoing maintenance. The Griffon is out for an overhaul. I have a pic of it here somewhere...

There were actually two T-34s painted in the pink scheme. I understand Ms. Parish bought the first one as a "replacement" for the P-40 (a little more forgiving to fly.) That aircraft was destroyed in a fatal crash back in the late 90s (someone else was flying it.) She then got a second T-34 and had it painted in the same scheme..don't know if she ever actually flew that one though. It was on display in the Air Zoo's "old" building until last year, when it was moved to make room for the newly-restored XP-55. I assume it's now in a hagar somewhere around AZO. I'll dig around to see if I have any pics, but I don't think I ever took any, as I thought it was horrifically ugly.

Disclaimer: This is not a comment on Ms. Parish's personal character, as I have the utmost respect for her, and her service to our country. It's simply my personal opinion as to the esthetics of the paint job on her airplane (I'll probably still get flamed for it anyway.)

In exchange for PL965 the museum received NH649:

Bax101--

PeterA could tell you precisely, but I think the number of flyable Spits right now is around 54 or 55. Several of those, such as Harry Stenger's newbuild "Grace T9", Peter Monk's Spirit of Kent and the Kennet Aviation Seafire XVII, are very welcome recent additions to the flying population of Mr Mitchell's masterpiece...ain't it cool...
