Oh. They'll just have a walk on appearance. He'll say "My dog goit killed by a car today," or whatever and that will be it. Although Peter Jackson has been known to push the PC line now and then.

Joe Campbell outlined the plotlines some years ago.

Some of them actually happened. (Human nature being what it is, they keep recurring...)

Good storytelling is still good storytelling.

Peter Jackson should hire this guy to do the CGI Lancasters;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIHqX6NX ... ed&search=

quote "Most of the US$50 million film will be shot in Wellington, where about 10 full-scale replicas of the Lancaster bombers used in the 1943 raid will be built by visual effects company Weta Workshop. Some filming is also likely in Britain." .........................."Computer-generated visual effects and models will depict much of the mission. Jackson had not ruled out using working Lancasters, but the 10 replicas would not fly.

“You do have to have them on the airfield and actors walking around them. We’re not going to resort to CG (computer-generated effects) for every single shot in this movie.”

It was likely a British screenwriter would be hired. The cast could include A-list stars, but director Christian Rivers said they were most likely to cast actors in their 20s for the main roles. Wing Commander Gibson was only 24 and some pilots were as young as 20.

“One of the things that’s really important for us, which isn’t in the original film, is to capture how young these pilots really were,” Rivers said."

Ah, a fave of mine.

You're right ... who the hell needs real planes (though they are preferred, if available!) when you can do what this guy does - his few "shorts" I've seen (he's got a site somewhere) are the best I've ever seen at "CGI" type stuff. Must take forever to do ... but, with a PJ type budget, go for it!

That is no doubt some of the best cgi I have seen. Waaay better than the Pearl Harbor stuff.

It's the shaky "hand held" look and uncentered camera zooms that give it the realism. You just have to be careful not to overdo it, or you end up with a nausea-inducing "NYPD Blue" look.

I liked the CGI airplane scenes in Jackson's King Kong, and I'm sure the technology will have advanced by the time the do Dam Busters.

No kidding ... I couldn't watch that show (and others like it) where the camera is moving around so much "to make it look 'real'" that you got sick. It's supposed to be "art", but, ah ... never mind, what do I know?

As to the CGI Mossies ... yes, not only are the scenes realistically "framed" as you describe, but the planes themselves (watch that Mossie land 8) ) have extremely realistic "movement". If I didn't know better, I'd say he used an old Disney trick by tracing real live action film into cartoon - sure looks like it ... but I don't know of any such 'real' film.
