Both of these are stored projects (in the UK) having had no work carried out on them in over 15 years.

Toronto!?!?!? That is an offense to those from Ottawa/Gatineau!!! Any place with a hockey team that bad can't really be a city.

TE517 was actually sold on to a UK collector some two years ago.

Well, we had 3 Spits and a Hurri at Geneseo this year, and might have had another if the Fighter Factory's example was not down for mx. They tried to have a Spit gathering at TOM a year ago, but only ended up with 2 Spits.

Pete

Six Spitfires pitched up at the 'Spitfire Reunion' in 1995 at Carefree and Phoenix Arizona. It was organised by Chris Woods. Unfortunately his own Spitfire went u/s shortly before the show.

NH749, MA793/'EN398', TE356, PT486, RW382 & TE308.

Runner-up would be Oshkosh one year when they had five, TE308, NH749, SL721, PT462, TP280.

Sorry Mike, it is Ottawa not Toronto. All them Cannucks look alike to me. They do like their vinage/historic airplanes and crews!

That was a fun year except I think there were six Spits there. These five and NH904 on the ground.

I really enjoyed the Jaguar sponsored hospitality tent for the crews...

Spit flights

Wed Nov 14, 2007 1:23 pm

I remember that year well at Oshkosh and that flight. We turned in a little early and I was lagging behind a little as we started in in formation, but just as we got to show center I caught up and was in good position. You are busy when you are in formation, but I did have a moment to glance over and savor the scene. It is all too rare.

Hey,

Thank you to everyone who posted. I figured some of my listings would be incorrect or at least needed updating, but regardless of that it paints a picture of all the Spits we have over here.

I originally thought we didn't have that many flyers in North America, but after I finished my first post I realized that there are quite a few.

I'd love to see a Spitfire gathering. It's too bad that the gatherings that were tried in the past didn't get quite as good a turn out. Maybe in a couple years (eg. the year after the Kittyhawk gathering) we could try one.

Cheers,

David

I attended the Spitfire Reunion in Scottsdale October 21, 1995 and the 6 Spits in attendance were:
MA793, NH749, PT462, RW382, TE308 and TE356
in addition:
Hurricane RCAF 5481

I checked my photos to make sure of the ids

Of the 45 Spitfires that can be considered fully airworthy world-wide in 2007, fifteen are currently based in the USA/Canada.

In Warbird terms, the most Spitfires we have had in one formation was at Duxford in September 2000 with twenty, with a further singleton on the field.

Wojtek Matusiak captured this previous record of sixteen in May 1998, again at Duxford.

Photos from the Spitfire Reunion, Scottsdale, Oct 1995. Some are not very good as my equipment and I were not the best in those days.

Those famous titanium stumps that took out the famous wooden 'D' wing section. ;) One for Mythbusters I think. I'm sure Dennis Lillee of Aluminium bat fame would also be amused.

Do full-scale replicas count? Just kidding. This replica (?) was at the Aviation Nation show this past weekend at Nellis AFB. N1940K as Mk IX, registered to Robert Deford.

That replica just doesn't look right. I like it, it's really good, but something doesn't look right. I can't put my finger on it. Regardless, I wouldn't turn it down if I was offered one.

Thanks to everyone for posting pictures of all the different group formations. They are really exciting to see. I wish I could have been over there in England to see the "flight" of 20... or would that be a "squadron"?

On a side note, I'm really excited to see the Spitfire at Comox being restored. I can't wait to see it fly. I sure hope they fly it around to all the airshows around here. And if Bob Jenns flies his sometime soon we could have two local Spits!

Cheers,

David
