A-30G 3rd Attack Group a/c went in about 300 yards off the freighter
which sank.The pilot was picked up but the gunner was lost
March 1944:(

This was 71-2 or so and he decided to race in the T-6 class and was killed in his first race when he hit a pylon.

The year was 1975 and the pilot was a guy named M.D. Washburn from Texas. That was the same year the wingwalker got killed during the inverted ribbon pick- up pass. Prian crashed with Don DeWalt in 1978, killing both of them. I think you're right that it was Prian's first year as a competitor.

Yup, I put the wrong pilot in the right senario.
The info on Piran is I believe correct.
