Dave I already did, and they did it exactly as I already said. They contacted Jakarta, and made it happen. However in Irian Jaya nowadays, you want to work w/the natives, and get them to negotiate. I talked with a guy working at British Petrol in Irian Jaya, and he said that the natives are pretty reasonable. If you trade them a toy like a beat up car, or some rifles they'd be more than happy to work with you.

Did they give any indication of what the whole expedition cost , including purchasing the aircraft ?

Hi Dave:

There were indications, but only implicit ones. You can pretty obviously make your own deductions by counting the number of trips they made; the size of their teams, and shipment of the plane in pieces. Also the cost of a restored Stearman.

Obviously a Stearman isn't required w/ the natives. I'd strongly advise talking with Max Ammer at Irian Diving about safety concerns. He is of Dutch origin, and he still thrives in the Sentani area.

So, Harvard...How long have you known this "dutchman" that you are willing to trust your life and dollars to? Trinkets and pistols for the natives?? Remember to save round-#6 for yourself!
