Perhaps this interested person or group could sponsor or contribute toward the restoration of the Planes of Fame B-17 at Chino or get involved with the CAF help out with any of the B-17s they operate. I would guess the Collins Foundation might appreciate this kind of help as well. If there are other non-profit/ museum operations restoring or operating B-17s you can add them to the list as well.
There are ways to help B-17s continue flying with out having one under your ownership.

But that’s not the same is it?
Maybe Fuddy Duddy would be the most likely candidate since she’s only owned by one person and not a group, right?

You've got me wondering now about a B-17E that seems to be off most peoples radar ..... Paul Allen's Flying Hertiage Collection has 41-9210 in long term restoration. I wonder if this still fits within the aims of the overall collection or if it might be traded out ?
And then there's this one over on the AirPirates website .......

<Rumor Alert>
Rumor has it that Paul Allen was indeed looking
to sell the B-17E, in it's current state, for 5 million
dollars.
I have not heard of any work being done on the
airframe, other than some volunteer effort,
for the past couple years.

why would his E model be worth $5 million bucks? Didn't a flyable B-17G sell last year for a rumored $3.5 million. I think you can have a B-17 purchased and restored for 3.5 mill easily. Aren't the F and G models most representative of the wartime models?
HOw many actual "BUYERS" are there out there looking for a B-17 at
this time? One or two, my guess.

I'm glad to see that that others have also heard about the possibility of Paul Allan selling his '17.
I'd hate to think I was spreading BS.
From what I remember he was also planning on selling the Jenny, but I don't know if anything ever happend with that.
