Wasn't the P-38 the first U.S. fighter to be equipped with a auto pilot?

Well, the P-38L was the last production version and it didn't come with an autopilot...

I don't know for certain... but suspect that the first autopilot equipped pure fighter was a Century series jet... anyone?
