Fly on, little birds. . .

Dean-
I know everyone at VFM calls their Aeronca an L-3, and it is painted green, but it's actually an Aeronca 65 TL or TF (Tandem- Lycoming or Franklin). I can't remember which engine it originally had, but I think it was a Lycoming. The aircraft was later fitted with a Continental engine before Doc acquired it. I don't think that type was ever used by the military. The Aeronca 65 TL/TF/TC's were nicknamed the "Highchair" Aeroncas, since the back seat sits up a little higher than the front (for visibility, I presume.) Anyway, it is a fairly rare bird and a nice plane.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for setting the record straight. I can only go by the signage in the hangar and what people tell me. I'm relatively new to VFM (a little over two years) so I'm still learning. I'm also pretty gullible and easy to hoodwink.

OK... so we only have ONE L-Bird on display at VFM... the other just looks like one! :D

Cheers!
