I thought that 'clover leaf' Wildcat looked familiar.
Found a pic in my files of the FM-2 Wildcat from VC-93 Petrof Bay and also found the same image on Wikipedia. This is the exact aircraft in the image posted by 'spookythecat' seen outside the restoration room:

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.

S: Took hammer away from midget.

Yes, I must admit that the FM-2 has a beautiful paint scheme...BUT (!) it's INCORRECT !! As the FM-2 was not developed until 1943 then should it not have a paint scheme to reflect the period?? (i.e. star and bar and wrap around blue paint). It's currently marked in a 1940-41 scheme.

You are so wrong!!
When you rebuild a Wildcat of what ever make/model and the podunk town you're in is the home of Marion Carl,
the greatest pilot the Marines ever had, well that's how you paint it. :!:

This may be old news to you guys, but if you enjoy Wildcats, and especially considering and interesting connection with the MOF's FM-2, you might want to read this guy's war diary. Not too long a read, but a great recollection of your average Joe Pilot's war...including the occasional exciting twist here and there. He also has some links to his connections to the Wildcat soon to be displayed at the MOF...might have even flown it back then. Enjoy...
