You guys really know how to kill someone's dream before you even know any of the story. People probably said the same things about the Gee Bees. So what all are you Bozos doing to advance the state of the art in air racing?

Brandon, you are 100% right.

The design however does look...well, let's just say risky. And that is to my non expert eye. That i'll be the first one to admit.

I was looking at the pics a a few things do come to mind.

Props diameter ? High RMP ? I just think of the Republic test AC that replaced it's jet by a supersoninc turboprop with short blades.

Wing spar ? Does it have any ? If not curious on the construction technique. This is the thinnest wing I even saw.

Cooling....Errr 2 x 2500HP V8. Is this a dash racer ? Surface evaporative ? I do not see any rad's.

OK, just read the article. You are right about pushing the envellope.

Quote:
Once up to temperature, the thermostats then direct engine water to a series of aluminum tubes within the wing, he said.

These tubes are immersed in 50 gallons of water which carry engine heat to the wing surfaces which are cooled by the slipstream. Separate series of tubes are provided for each engine enabling autonomous cooling of either engine.

"Wing water can be diverted through an auxiliary radiator located in the tail cone for cooling on the ground if needed,"

Quote:
"The RP-4 wing is one of the most complex ever constructed," Rose said. "Less than three inches at its thickest point, it nevertheless contains flaps and ailerons as well as 200 feet of tubing and nearly 400 fabricated fittings and connectors which comprise the cooling systems."

So then back to the original question...has it flown? If so, anybody got a youtube link or something? That has got to be something to hear and see!

Maybe that is the real "secret" of the design - all of the other pilots will feel sick as soon as this thing cranks up - thus allowing the racer to win.

I didn't mean to imply it would not or could not fly just that I don't want to be standing around nearby when it does. :D

It looks as good as Wildfire the Pond Racer and itll fly when Chinese Democracy comes out and the Mach buster Daryls and Matt's air racers fly. Sorry I'm posting under the influence and I plead not guilty to dream killing.

Not before, because they were so secretive. After, not enough, because they were so litigious. It's a view that the Wrights were the worst thing to happen to US aviation.
