How is it that the pilot doesn't even *look* out the left side of the airplane at the cow as it gets closer? The back seater does seem to turn and look that way well after it goes past, so maybe....?

If it's real...it's not a strike, because as others have mentioned the airplane and camera don't even so much as shudder.

I think the cow was moving or running from the pilots right to his left so that as he pulls up over him he knows he will spook him. Probably done this before. Of course, we all hope he was aware of the wooden pole in the middle of the field and that is why he turned to his left after passing it. I don't speak the King's english so what they say is hard to understand. Jolly what!

We had a major flood here a few years back and JCW was flying his trusty HC-130P down the Columbia near Astoria looking for flood victims. He and his crew saw squadrons of minisubs heading down the river and out to sea. Turns out a bunch of dairys got flooded and all the cows were swept away. Seems like a upside down cow with it's feet sticking out of the water looks a lot like 4 periscopes At least from a airplane they do

I say real. Watch it frame by frame. The left elevator pops up as the cow's head strikes it. And, after they hit the cow they almost struck a pole. Watch it go by on the left side as they roll out.

My point exactly! If it hits hard enough to yank the aileron around, then how on earth is the aileron not damaged and the flightpath not affected!

I agree; I grew up on a ranch and still help out regularly. If an airplane had hit a cow hard enough to make it tumble like that, it's hard to believe it wouldn't have caused major problems for the airplane. Cows have a low center of gravity and four points of contact that make them very stable. I'm not sure how this was done, but it's hard to believe it is what it appears to be.

I say fake - and patently so. IF the plane hit hard enough to make the cow drop like that, then surely it would've had a significant effect to swing the aircraft somewhat to the left - possibly catastrophically. If not, and it say, just hit the cow with the fabric, then why would the cow dropped? As someone who's grown up going to the family ranch - understand that a cow might weigh more than the entire wing structure of the plane!
