Not to derail this thread, but what airplane is that shiney wing off of in this picture?

It looks reminiscent of a B-17.
Probably the same plane that the shiny vertical stabilizer to the right is intended for.

Oh yeah,

I meant to add that the OFM example is only a wooden mock-up, built to display a scant few original parts. Some parts of tail are original, and I think an aileron or something.

I can try to get a few shots tomorrow it you like.

It is the B-17. This is from when the collection was still in Arlington.

Like I said before the example at the OFM is a wooden mock-up, built to display a few original components. I took many more photos than this, but for some reason the files weren't there when I tried to open them. I guess my little old digital, may finally be on its way out.

As you can see by comparing the photos of this mock-up at the OFM, with the photos of an original at the FHC, The OFM example is pretty inaccurate. IIRC the OFM example was obtained along with many other items from the old Polar Aviation Museum in Minnesota.

The canopy is a rather poor reproduction and it appears that no effort was made to reproduce a panel.

After looking over this example, the original components incorporated look like they consist of the left elevator (can anyone read / translate the wording on it?), the tail cone and the vertical stabilizer. The rudder appears to be a reproduction.

I am not however sure that the components incorporated are actually Fi-103, and not V-1. I can look into it but any assistance would be appreciated.

Try: 'photorescue' if it's important. http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/

IIRC, 'Fi103' is just the RLM allocated designation (from the designers, Fieseler) for what's usually known as a V-1 from the vengeance weapon designation. It's the same thing. I don't know if there was a different designation for the manned (or sometimes 'womanned') version, but they're usually known as 'Reichenbergs'.
