Please feel free to post these pictures on WIX of the Whiteman AFB, MO B29 marked as The Great Artiste.
I shot all these pictures on a Sunday morning in late July 2006 after making arrangements well in advance with the Whiteman AFB Public Affairs officer. I checked in at the visitor center and waited a few minutes before being escorted by security the few feet inside the base to where this B29 is on display. I was allowed to take as many pictures of the B29 as I wished and was treated with a great deal of courtesy.

I know it is outdoors, but it looks like it is kept in really great shape.

Here is a photo of Enola Gay after takeoff from the 509th Composite Group "yearbook" that was printed just after the war.


The Whiteman folks would naturally want to have their B-29 in 509th C.G. colors since they are home to the current 509th Wing. I'm glad they have been able to do cosmetic upkeep to the airplane regardless of the paint scheme applied, though I would like the markings to be more accurate.
