Pictures of Fort Sill? Didn't see them.

A man of eclectic tastes though. Did you find out why the vehicles were disappearing from the Patton Museum? And what was the last picture in the Patton thread, M-70? Didn't see that one when I was there in 2005.

USS Texas, my favorite ship. Have to go down there again before the drain the slip and mount it on blocks. Always wanted to sail my little one (six' R/C) beside it.

Here are some pictures from Fort Sill taken at different times between 1992 and last year. The older shots show the displays in much better shape.

Thanks Brad for starting this thread.

Cosmos, sorry no Sill photos there, Brad has done a great job on those here. I figured folks that like this sorta stuff would like the ones over there. The Patton Museum is planning on moving a lot of the collection to Fort Benning, GA. When you visit you notice vehicles are missing from your last visit. The little items are going into CONEX containers for shipment. Fort Knox will no longer be Armor The last pic is an XM803 you can google that for info.

Yep, the plan for the Texas is to have it in a dry area, the costs of upkeep in the polluted water is killing them....I hate to see that, a ship outta of water is like a jet plane mounted with on a pole stuck up the exhaust, just isn't right.

Brad,
Thanks for the confirmation of the T-41.
I'd be very interested in finding out what they have in the old hangar. A Huey was sitting outside when I visited about 4 years ago.
Regards,
Andy

No problem, I just understood wrong. And Brad did do a great job.

I didn't mean to change the subject, but what the heck.

I a perfect world, the Texas would be kept in good enough shape to occasionally sail like the Jeremiah O'Brien. Time, and the elements have made that option not possible. She is already in danger of sinking where she is. In order to have her done by her 100th birthday, they needed to start last year and that didn't happen.

A ship in dry berth beats one that is sunk. Or is scrapped.

Of the three options for dry berthing, I cannot decide on #1, or #2. They both have good points. Except leave one side of the ship free of ramps for a clean view.

As much as I like mine, and the builders model in Austin (last time I was able to check on it, it was in storage out of view), I would prefer to be able to see the real thing. Even if it is on dry land. Which thinking about it, would be pretty neat too. As long as they put some screws back on her.
