I worked with Bob Byrnes in civilian life. He was an ace with the 57th. He never talked about his exploits too much, but did tell me that when he once ran out of ammo and was wounded he was so pissed off that he tried to ram the Germans. The two Germans buggered out after they figured he was trying to commit suicide. He also noted that his father not him played for the St Louis Cardinals in the World Series in an age when they didn't give rings, but metals. He showed me his father's World Series medal that he had made into a ring.
