It's not an E model though. The Marines at least had RF-4Bs so painting an RF-4C as one isn't that much of a stretch.

64-1000 looks terrible. 'Spirit of America' was lifted from a Bi-Centennial VMFP-3 RF-4B. The tail stripe was lifted from VMFA-112, which flew F-4N/S out of Navy Dallas. LV was a Navy P-3 tail code. The guy certainly had a variety of things he was trying to honor with that paint job!

Spent quite a bit of time at Bergstrom shooting Phantoms. 5 Squadrons of them made for an incredibly impressive ramp. My last visit was a week before the 12th RS shut down in 1992. The best times were during the RAM meets in '86, '88, and '90.

Anybody have pictures of the O-2s at Bergstrom?

For anyone that may be interested, I'll repeat an earlier offer (in a different post). Should you be in San Angelo, and, if it's convenient for both parties, I can arrange to get you on Goodfellow AFB to see the aircraft there (including the Global Hawk), including:
MiG-29 (ex-Moldovan AF)

T-6 (minus landing gear doors)

RF-4
T-28

The C-130s are in the Fire Scool compound, so that'd be a bit of a problem, as is an F-15A, and (squirelled away *somewhere*) an F-14D...

Just checked the satellite image, there are planes scattered all over Goodfellow. Back in the '91 timeframe, were the airplanes clustered in more of one spot? Seems like I recall a C-130 in a silver late '50's scheme, although I may be mistaken on the location.

Around about '91 was when the USAF (now DoD) Fire School moved down from Chanute AFB, IL, and they were gathering up airframes for training. The "silver" plane you saw was possibly the mockup in the main fire pit. The "silver" C-130s there now are actually grey. It also appears that they've moved the F-14 to the main ramp. They have also removed the two scrapped C-130s.

I was at Berstrom from 83 to 86, Jet Mech 45th AMU would love to hear from anyone stationed there. Would also love any pics from then. I had some from EOR we took one day, but have been lost to time. I was also CUT trained to Crew Chief, and was asst. on 63-927. Was nice to see my name on the right rear Canopy.

The Chanute Air Museum has an RF-4C.
