All three Huff Air LLC airplanes should move to Skyway Aero.

Your link to the picture of Mike Gillian's Wildcat is actually the one owned by Greg Shelton. Here's a picture of Gillian's at the Mt. Comfort show this year:

Yea I had that one and one more dorked up. That's what happens when you have to much cut and paste going on! I think it's all fixed now.

Thanks for all the great info everyone. Too bad all this updated info can not be transferred over to the Warbird Registry!

A suggestion...E-mail the link to this thread to Scott with a heading of "Widcat Data For Registry"..he'll
probably eventually get it.

12068 @ Honiara is on Guadalcanal...I saw it two years ago and amazingly, the wings still pivot! Aircraft sits up on 55 gal. oil drums, prop
tips are bent so it must have bellied in. Aircraft is actually 20 miles or so West of Honiara at Vilu Museum along with a P-38, F6F, F4U, SBD and other partial wrecks.

Which one is the F4F-3 that used to be displayed at MCAS El Toro?

August

Fri Sep 18, 2009 1:32 pm

That would be Bu 16278 now at the Flying Leatherneck Aviation Mueum.

Fri Sep 18, 2009 1:37 pm

Ah, got it. So that should be listed above as an F4F-3, not an FM-2. Or should it? It seems to be an FM-2 serial number, but the plane was definitely an F4F. Converted during restoration?

August

EDIT: The plane pictured on the Flying Leatherneck web site does NOT look like the plane I saw at El Toro. Maybe we are talking about different planes.

The former El Toro F4F-3 is the plane now at O'Hare.

I along with my crew currently have 47030 in about a thousand pieces at the Fighter Factory hangar. 90% of paint stripping is complete with some odd and ends left to do. Some small part painting going on along with the cockpit and fuel tank area painted.

This is a great list of airworthy and static Wildcats. Can those in the know update this list?

Thanks.
