Sweetness! I've been really looking forward to seeing how the final artwork came out - thanks for the photo, Jim!

Django, from searching about a little while ago, it appears to have been this company that did the artwork:

Notice that if you scroll down just a bit, you can see a photo of the initial study.

Yeah, they do really nice work.

Shipley found some artist from LA to come and do it. She is smokin hot even if only a painting. Girls like that don't exist in my world

Thanks
Not from a P-38, that's for sure! Where was it taken?

Is this based off of a real aircraft from the past, or is it made up?

What a beautiful paint job, probably the best nose art I've ever seen!

Yes, it is an original scheme once applied to P-38H 42-66825, that served with the 431 FS, 475 FG.

Re: quick question: how many P38 survive today?

Going through the current Warbirds Directory, I'd say there's about 30 identities surviving, including a few new identities in recovered or known wrecks from the last decade or so which could - and some will - be restored to complete aircraft, some of those to fly, under current plans. Of course that's vague because some ids will be combined (and others have been) to make a single complete aircraft, while there's at least two 'complete' P-38s in salt water which won't get restored to fly and are awaiting / won't be recovered. I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of 'crashed/destroyed' ids reappear from the stored wreckages out there, although they will have a lot of new metal if/when they do return.

HTH.

PS - anyone serious about what's out there needs their own copy of the Warbird Directory, see: http://www.warbirdsdirectory.goodall.com.au/

And Classic Wings recently covered all the P-38 survivors in a couple of recent issues, Right, Dave?
