This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Also sorry to see unrelated crap showing up on the Military Channel (that used to be the Wings channel, my reason for going to digital cable in the first place.) If I didn't already hate AT&T, I'd drop cable, get DSL and go back to getting all my TV over the air.

The History Channel is in love with NOSTRADUMBASS and all this end of the world BS.
The 2012 thing is obviously a huge cash cow for the msm. I skip over it and keep going to the Military Channel.
Even ESPN is a bunch of gossiping idiots now.

Dumbing down of America, kids that think we did not land on the moon. Yep, it's all there and the alleged History Channel isn't helping matters. My daughter, in the fourth grade, at a public school said that there was no mention at all of the attack on Pearl Harbor in her class, this past December.
I sat her down and with the help of the USS Arizona memorial website explained what happened. Her grandpa (my dad) was on Iwo Jima, as part of the invasion force. USMC.

Here in Australia I belong to the Australian Sceptics; a group dedicated to taking a cold hard look at the nonsense that is being spread through the media and other outlets. Each year we present the Bent Spoon Award to the person or organisation that has made the most outrageous claim in the last year. The History Channel has had several nominations for some of the tripe it pedals. The Bent Spoon Award was inspired by Uri Geller and his spoon bending antics.
Unfortunately the History Channel will continue to show highly speculative and nonsensical shows because people will watch them: everything from Nostradamus to John Edwards talking to the dead. We have a generation that has been brought up on pseudo scientific nonsense and with modern technology every nutter with an axe to grind can find a willing and believing audience.
Someone once said that the more we learn; the less we know and that's so true.

But you're missing the point, Neo. There is no spoon....
Sorry, I'm in the middle of a long, boring overnight shift.
As for the "History" channel, now I know why it was suddenly included on my basic cable last year (it used to be part of the more expensive tier of channels.) There's seldom anything on worth watching, although I do enjoy "Life After People." We also have "History International," which tends to have much better programming. Of course, our cable company has also started including the Sci Fi (excuse me, SyFy) channel, now that BSG is done and it's nothing but crappy made-for-cable movies and "paranormal" garbage. Unfortunately, the Military Channel is still in the more expensive package..but my brother tells me it's mostly reruns of the same shows over and over. He was chuckling about one show on the Battle of Britain. The host (supposedly an F-22 driver) was sitting in the cockpit of a Buchon, talking about how hard it would have been for Luftwaffe pilots to see over the engine..not realizing that Bf109s had inverted engines and a much lower nose profile.

Yep..unfortunately my new job has me working the overnight shift on Fridays and Saturdays, which rules out most weekend activities, including MAHS meetings. But being in Michigan, it beats the alternative!

There appears to be more 'historical content' on NatGeo these days than on the "H" Channel....jeez....even the Weather Channel runs "When Weather changed History" on the weekends!

This is part of a trend in cable toward the mainstreaming of formerly niche channels. Spike, formerly known as The National Network, formerly known as The Nashville Network, is one of the better known. Basically, the days when we thought that cable was going to give us a huge diversity of niche channels are ending, because the owners have discovered that it is more profitable to have a small piece of the general interest audience than to have a big piece, or even all, of a special interest audience.
