When Courtesy first listed it the nose was not photoshoped, they did the photoshoping a week or so later, wonder if CY called and whined or someone warned them.

OK, I'll bite
What is the back story to this all? Link or story please.

That is even more interesting...
Maybe they could paint Cantankerous Chuck III on the side.

I don't understand how a claim for $$ could be done on a decoration replicated from an other plane, who in fact was never the property of the "people in question", have the name painted with paint paid by taxpayers, and probably not be painted by the "people in question" but more probably by a ground crewmember.

The name is trademarked.

Hum, ok, so the intention is clearly to make profit...
Just for the fun: what could happen if the people who painted it, is still alive and ask for a part of the benefit made by "the people in question" ?

Thanks Bill, but I'm afraid if I "go Packard", I'll never go back. However, another diesel or radial-powered beast is more likely in the future.
I've edited my original post to avoid paying Gl*m*r**s Gl*nn*s royalties. I hope those royalties aren't earmarked to buy leg braces for orphans.

Who? You mean the second guy to break the sound barrier?
I think his wishes to be forgotten should be accomodated- except for the photos of the T-6 he groundlooped and destroyed. I can't seem to find any though. Can anyone help?

Now that is an interesting way to look at it!!

Wasn't it the ever graceful CY who asked for this a/c to be painted in his old colors? If so, what a premier dufus...

Just another chapter in the saga of how he makes himself look ridiculous. He seems he!l bent for leather to p!ss off people left, right, and center! But, by all means let the guy ruin his own "legacy" by acting this way. The only one he destroys is himself.

P.S. Rename the 51 "Unglamorous CY" and trademark the name!

I am not taking side because it is just something I don't get, but I will say this. Gen. Yeager is not the only well known fighter ace to trade mark his markings. There was a big deal not long ago when a model of a Hellcat was going to be produced, and the pilot and his family trademarked the markings on his aircraft. The same goes for a FG-1D that is flying on the airshow circuit today. In my opinion, if you paint your markings on something you don't own, then it belongs to the person that owns the item. Could you imagine if someone painted an awesome piece of art on a train car, and then tried to tell the railroad that they own that? FOr as much complaining that went on when the NMUSAF trademarked the Memphis Belle noseart, I think they were right. If it was painted on a Navy plane, then the Navy owns it. If it is painted on a Norfolk Southern tarin car, then NFS owns it. I do wish that they would figure it all out because it is really cool to see Glamorous Glen, Old Crow, and Gentleman Jim all parked together.

Interesting. Who are the Hellcat and Corsair pilots and what are the markings? I like to follow this subject.
