I think the only CGI C-47s in BoB were in the large formation flight shots. The takeoff scene was accomplished with real aircraft. I think they did use some full scale plywood cutouts in the background to fill out the scene..there's one in the background during the baseball game in the final episode.

At least it’s not nearly as obvious as the David Clarks were in the taxi scenes in the “Memphis Belle” remake!
As for “Bridge Too Far,” I agree it’s an incredible sequence. They didn’t use CGI, but did use matte paintings for the glider and massed formation scenes.

I wish the ground crews actually looked like they worked airplanes and not had on those clean uniforms and jackets.
