Like others have said, the runaway prop is generally caused by a bad governor, but could also be caused by internal leakage of the prop. When a prop is spinning the centrifigal twisting force tends to move the blades to a flat/low pitch, the governor opposes this. One emergency procedure for a runaway prop is to intermittantly activate the propeller feather button as this sends a higher pressure than the governor to the prop. It may get the blades to a higer pitch angle thus allowing the governor to start to govern again.

[NatGeo is broadcasting season #1 and the second season has been available in Canada already. there was some delay because of licensing for US distribution.
Second season;*]

Dunno about you, but I'm seeing season 2 in New York.

"Race Against The Melt" to be shown next on NatGeo was Episode #10 Season One in Canada.
Make note the NatGeo episode titles are all different from those shown in Canada.
Also the theme music was changed, not for the better!

If you're seeing episodes that contain parts about the CL-215's being delivered, you're seeing Season 1.

For those who might be interested, you should be able to order the Season 1 DVD set through the Buffalo Wear web site. I just ordered a green Buffalo Airways polo shirt the other day. Yeah, it was expensive, but dag-nabbit, I want one! The site requires payment through PayPal. I already own the DVDs (thanks again, Dave!), and I will definitely buy Season 2 when it comes out!

My best friends dad,who I have mentioned many times here(probably too many times) was flying B-29's out of Scotland after the war and had a prop runaway.it flew off the engine and buzzsawed the side of the fuselage.he showed me pics.looked like no fun to me

Roger Freeman's book The Mighty Eighth recounts a story about a 351 BG B-17F named "Eight Ball" (511 BS; serial no. 42-3135, coded DS-P) that lost its no. 2 prop to a runaway. When it came off, the prop sliced through the logo on the nose of the airplane. After the B-17 was repaired and put back into service, the crew renamed it "No Balls At All"

"No Balls At All" was shot down near Amsterdam on 22 Feb. 1944.

The 511 BS was commanded at the time they first went into combat by a Major Clinton F. Ball and the names of most of the airplanes in the squadron were some form of "Ball"

Cannon Ball
Screwball
Speedball (obviously prior to the much later negative drug connotations!)
Snowball
Highball
Fireball (probably not the most "lucky" of names in aerial combat!)
Spitball
Foulball
Spareball
and the Major's own airplane, Linda Ball

What can I say, it was the kind of story that stayed with me for many years after reading it in junior high school - almost 40 years ago! (I did however have to go look it up again for the actual details.)

I ordered the hat, the one that the son Mikey wears with the embroidered DC3 on the side and the Canadian Flag/NWT on the other side. It's been 10 days since I got the confirm email but no sign of the hat. I just found out that there is a labor dispute that has shut down ALL mail service in Canada since June 14. No resolution yet so if your wondering where your shirt is.......

What about the show “Alaska wing men” saw two shows and that’s it?

Phil

I read that 'Flying wild Alaska' is in production for next season, I'd like to see more 'Alaska wingmen' too.

There should still be 3 more episodes after this weekend -

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1542981/episodes

Unfortunately, it looks like NatGeo has taken the liberty to re-name some of the episodes which doesn't help.

I'm not sure what NGC is doing, but my DVR says that on the night after the above episode airs, these 3 remaining episodes air back to back overnight:

Not sure why NGC is burying these on overnight time slots? Or maybe the descriptions are wrong?

Season 1, Episode 11: The Crash
Original Air Date—27 January 2010
Across the world in spectacular Izmir, after thousands of hours of painstaking preparation and life-risking flying, a terrible accident devastates the Turkey crew - and everyone at Buffalo Airways. In Yellowknife, the spring melt is well underway, and northerners are finding ways to celebrate, from checking out the melting waterfalls to racing jet boats onto the remaining river ice. It's also Wilf's first run as flight attendant on the DC-3 - for which he insists on wearing a shirt and tie to the consternation of the entire company. It's the final push Jeremy needs to move to HQ in Yellowknife. Kelly and Jynelle dig up a house-warming surprise that practically brings tears to the gruff rampie's eyes. But has the move come too late to do him any good?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Season 1, Episode 12: Change of Seasons
Original Air Date—3 February 2010
Cargo manager (and unofficial Buffalo den mother) Kelly has problems enough when Jynelle's holiday leaves her shorthanded. But when her engineer husband Juan quits on the spot after a blowout with Joe, Kelly is left in a terrible position. Will Kelly stay - or will she go? Scott also gets bad news: he must stand down from flying so a rival co-pilot can be fast-tracked to captain. Scott pulls out all the stops to secure a new contract flying practically to the North Pole, which will get him back in the pilot's seat. But his rival is also interested in this new dream job - flying the C-46 to Eureka, a tiny research station at the top of the world. And after nine months of brutal work and tough luck, Jeremy sees light at the end of the tunnel. Buffalo needs a new DC-3 co-pilot, and contrary to expectation, he's getting a crack at it. But first, he's got to pass the test of flying with Joe.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Season 1, Episode 13: Up in the Air
Original Air Date—13 February 2010
After her husband's acrimonious departure from Buffalo, Kelly has a confrontation that decides whether she, too, will quit. Jeremy makes a mistake that could end his Buffalo career. An aviation gas shortage brings a sobering dose of reality to the McBryans. And after a visit from his mom, fate throws Scott an unexpected curve ball. When the dust settles, someone will be leaving Buffalo Airways.

Well, I guess we'll find out July 2, they've been doing weird things with Ice Pilots since about June 10 when they switched it from Friday to Saturday nights, now nothing this week to resume on 7/2. :? Have the popcorn ready for a 3 episode season 1 finale.

I have been wathing it through on demand from our cable compnay and last night they changed all the "avialable until" dates to June 27 from various dates in July- strange - Makes me wonder if there is some sort of contract or liscening dispute going on.

Its ashame because it is really an interesting show- but then again who wants a reality show that shows reality.
