Re: Which Squadron had the best score?

The question seemed simple enough actually. But to clarify for the original poster and to put the nit pickers at bay.

What USAAF, USN, or USMC Fighter Squadron was credited with the most kills during WW2.

Isn't USAAF, the 357th?

Squadron not group

AAF is the 353rd FS Cobras
USN is VF-15

Now the thing is that 353rd flew from 1943-45 while VF-15 had only 1 combat cruise of a few months.
But, 353rd hwas a 16 a/c squadron while VF-15 was around 56 a/c and at least 3 times the pilots!

they ammassed 310 confirmed aerial kills. Led by CAG "Dashing Dave"

34 kills and a MoH recipient, they were beyond compare. They flew
the best fighter of WWII, the Grumman F6F Hellcat. With a 19 to 1
kill ratio, it gets no better. Piloted by the best of the best, the Hellcat,
collectively know as "The Big Blue Blanket" swept the Japanese from
the skies over the Pacific, protected the greatest fleet the world has
ever known, enabled the island hopping campaign, and put the AAF in
a position to deliver "Little Boy" and "Fat Man".

yeah, i'm sorry but the corsair was the best fighter of ww 2. :supz:
