MAM is between the ocean & a swamp? seriously???

its been a really long day so ill post a pic tomorrow for ya. all of our stuff is indoors and the ground isnt as flat as it looks in the aerial... its got drainage at both ends, one is a pond thats about 20 ft at its deepest point and its long and runs away from the shops... actually is about 100 yds away from shop the 17 is locked away in our maint hangar with the 51 and 190 snj-4 and n3n.. and fuel bowser. i was one of 2 who personally moved her in. We had calls from the boss all day asking if the planes made it in and everything was ready so he is satisfied with the area and what itll be like(he lives close by too). She has been apart of my life and my families life since 1997.... i am looking after her.

FWIW, I looked it up and MAM's field elevation is 16.4 feet.

Ike's storm surge, 18ft with big waves on top
MAM, 16.4 feet

In light of the high profile disasters at Weeks Air Museum and Lone Star I'm allowing myself to rest assured that the museum staff in Virgina know precisely what they are doing here. I can't imagine they would have allowed the entire collection to sit idle if there had been any doubt. Keep your bowser dry!

Yeah, we thought the same thing too once, Rob...but tornadoes and hurricanes pride themselves in surprising even the prepared. Good luck folks!

I am sitting in our EMS dispatch center in VB right now. Had 5 homes damaged by a possible tornado in Sandbridge a few miles away a little while ago. Our wind indicator is currently reading 62 kt. gusts and we have water coming in the building from sideways rain seeping in the roof joints.

This is not going to be fun.

According to Google Earth's forecast of the hurricane's path, the eye of the storm will pass roughtly 14 miles east of the museum. That puts the museum on the west side of the storm which is good news. The fact that its still just 14 miles from the eye, not so much I'm guessing.

So far today we have had 5 inches of rain from Irene in Va Beach. Looking at the video from the MAM, everything is safe at this point.

Luckily it was not as bad in southern Delaware as I had expected. The worst we got was a heavy squall that lasted about 3 minutes, it busted a pretty big branch from a tree just outisde our backyard. It came down perfectly parallel to our fence about 3 feet from the shed. This is the squall that produced a tornado in Lewes that damaged 17 structures.

Actually the wind this morning has seemed worse than yesterday.

Highest surge I heard about on WVEC in Norfolk- Va Beach was just over 8 feet. We had 8.7" of rain in Va Beach, some areas like Suffolk had closer to 15". Winds were in the 40's with gusts up around 60+ after the eye had passed. That was the time of the worst winds but the worst rain was before the eye passed the area. The Military Aviation Museum was to open today if they had power, and on the cameras they did have the hanger doors open this afternoon. So all looks good.
