Don't take this the wrong way, but.......spoken as someone who never saw them in the Phantoms.

Quite right. They switched to the T-38 in what 1974? I was born in '71. Would have loved to have seen the Phantoms. My dad said he saw them in 1972 at Transpo. I think the Blue Angles were there too. I recently uncovered some family photos taken at that show.

Hehe..I've only seen the T-birds in F-16s. Although I did get a chance to see the Blues fly A-4s a couple of times..I really loved those Scooters, but would have REALLY loved to see both teams flying Phantoms. Personally, I think the purtiest T-birds aircraft was the F-100.

The best show was by far the Phantom show.... the T-38s just weren't noisy enough..... the F-16 T-birds now are just so polished they are lame... my two cents...

Luckily I'm old enough to remember watching the Blue Angels flying the F-4's at Miramar.

One of the USAF T-38 pilots at this year's Alliance air show told me that Ross Jr's pilots train with the AF T-38 guys at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls. The AF pilot told me that at one point, Ross had FOUR flyable F-5s and the T-38, but the US government stepped in and told him that he could keep two but the other two had to go. It seems that owning four airworthy combat jets of US origin no longer counts as a collection, it counts as a private air force, and that's against the rules. . . gubmint bastards. . .

Weird, since the Starfighters have multiple F-104's flying.

Different situation... the USAF isn't still flying F-104s, but they are still flying T-38s.
