John, you can tell by either the cammo scheme, RAF markings on a US built aircraft or the RAF style serial number which is on the rear fuselage, just in front of the horizontal stabilizers. In this case you can see the AL321 on the first A-20 pic.
One or all three of these clues will tell you. Also, an RAF fin flash is another clue. This mainly for lean-lease aircraft that were bound for the RAF though. Anything bound for russia can be more tricky but most of those never came back anyways.
