these are NOT the original wings. They came in without any covering or paint. SORRY!!

A number of years ago I visited his hangar and saw the F4U-4 project under rebuild.
Bob mentioned something about this one coming from a fire pit where it had been buried. I don't remember any other details. Whether it was the basis for the whole project or where some of the parts came from.
It has substantial replacement of skins and other structure so the rebuild is very indepth.

Where would I find the ID plate on the wings? I can go back down and take some pics if I can find it. FOUND IT!!!! The left wing has an ID tag. The right wing does not.

Willys also made Corsair wing assemblys. Neat stuff.

To clear up the facts, Bob Odegaard's F4U-4 restoration is actually BuNo.81857.

Ironically, that left wing panel was salvaged from FG-1D BuNo.76628. Judging from the data plate, it would have to have been a replacement panel swapped onto the FG-1D before it crashed in Hawaii in 1946.

The right outer wing panel I believe was salvaged from F4U-4 BuNo.81164. Both BuNo.81164 and 81857 were recovered by Larry Webster in March 1977 from a pit where they had been buried during active service at NALF Quonset Point in Charlestown, Rhode Island.
