Photo #10 - The wrecked cars license plate is "NY 44", there are a bunch of Hellcats on the right with "delivery" numbers painted on engine cowl, possibly Grumman Plant. Steamroller is for runway improvements (has nothing to do with crash).

The tire impact right into the trunk lid looks awesome! I can imagine someone leaving that car out there at night and the area was closed for repaving, and someone doesn't get the notam, comes into the field at night and lands right on it!
Then the intrepid aviator finds his boss is the car owner who had taken the wife to the field for some starry night observation after dinner and drinks.
And , he's kind of ticked...

Looks like they picked the wrong spot to watch the submarine races-did they even have NOTAMS during WW2?
I doubt there would have been a lot of after dark test flying out of Bethpage.
