Kid had me going there for a minute...............the Star correctly, ...I first thought you were talking about the TG-3A, you wouldn't believe the research that went into that paint job. Actually came from Schweitzer itself, as painted at Blackwood Field, Waco, Tx in the war. Only thing wrong was the #5 they only had 4, but it was for the 5 of us that restored it.

I always kind of assumed the light blue insignia was an attempt to replicate a faded old style insignia which had been updated with the bar and then the blue surround. A pretty common occurrence during the war. However, even allowing them some artistic license for the coloring, it is still a bit "off" as the insignia does not have the correct proportions either. None of which would have stopped me from enjoying watching her fly had I have gotten the chance!

Me too.

If we could just still have her and the men who were on her that day, I'd take a B-26 COVERED in disproportionate mis-colored insignias!

Great photo Bill. I have the same frustration when scanning old 4x6s, but then I tell myself to be happy that I have these old photos. Besides the imperfections is what makes them special. Better to have slighlty noisy photos of White Lightning than none at all.

If I have mis-identified any please let me know so I can correct them. Back then I did not have the camera and lens that I have today so the aerial shots were very poor, so most of my viewable shots are ground shots.

Were you taking a picture of the mighty TG-3A and Cloud Dancer get in the way. Lynn will be glad to see my mighty Ford F-250 airshow pick up in a couple of the pictures.

Great pics!!! Does bring back memories of a fantastic era. I went to the 86 show and the scene then was very similar to these pics.

I was lucky to see one take off of the Marauder at Airsho 86, they were having some issues with it and it did not fly in the show. I watched it, somehow knowing it was going to be my only time seeing it fly. Very lucky to see it, then years later getting to do air to air with the Tallichet machine in 93 and seeing it fly again in 98. I went to the Marauder 50th anniversary reunion in 1991 and sadly Carolyn broke a wrist pin on the way and had to land in West Va. darn, the emotion of having the guys there watching their airplane at Martin State Airport would have been magic. So close!!!!

Dont know why the caption says airworthy by 2009. Can't be back in the air , destroyed. I met the pilot a few times in 86, Dick Baird was a great , warm personality, it saddened and shocked me to read of the crash month later in Air Classics.
