Randy great photos. How much noise is there once the missle comes off the rail and ignites?

A lot...even with E-A-R foam earplugs and my helmet on over that, it was eash to hear and *feel* the WOOOOOOSH over the regular jet engine noise. It was one of those things where the sound was probably transmitted by vibrating your skull just as much as the soundwaves reaching your eardrums.

A voice from the back of the room yelled " YEAH, THE F-4'S KEEP WINNING !!!!". The crowd roared and the LtCol said his polite goodbyes and left.

In my experience, it's not hard to out-dogfight the F-4s, but the MQM-107 drones can kick the crap out of you!!

Those little things have such a tiny turn circle and their thrust/weight ratio is such that they can sustain a higher G for a longer period of time than most of the fighters! Many of my friends have been "defensive against the drone" after they try to get in there for their missile shot and the drone starts to out-turn them!

Pretty humiliating for a fighter pilot to be out-turned by some retired civilian 100 miles away steering a drone via computer!

Is this because the drone can take advantage of the fact that there is no pilot in the plane that needs to be kept alive?

Randy, I don't think it was meant to be a serious comment, but it was an EXTREMELY Phantom sympathetic crowd and the guys timing couldn't have been better. Earlier in the program when the Col. began speaking about the QF-4s he got some good natured ribbing and that comment capped it off. What he expect ? He was in a room phull of Phantom PHANATICS !!

No, the lack of a pilot isn't really a factor...it's the really tiny turn circle the sub-scale drones have as well as their ability to sustain energy better than a 'real' fighter.

From memory ... I just can't resist:

I shot down the Predator
that's-a once less slot for me . . .
I shot down the Predator
and it filled my heart with glee!

. . .

Hey, Trip, what happens
when your Predator gets shot down?
Do you just say what the hell,
go get a cup of coffee or something?

. . .

The Air Force'll just build more of 'em ...
The man is holding us down!
