The KB-50 has always been on its gear. You're probably thinking of the B-36.

James, Has a color scheme been determined for the ex-NASM's 727 and with the B-50 getting some TLC will it be placed inside somewhere or will that have to wait 'till another building goes up in the future?

Are you thinking of "Lucky Lady II" at Chino? That is the only B-50 survivor I know of that is disassembled.

The 727 will most likely be redone in the same scheme it has now. Our Caravelle is also an ex-United plane and it will eventually get the older blue and white scheme. The KB-50 will remain outdoors.

I remember seeing Lucky Lady there in 1979 as a kid at the big annual Chino show. I really hope they get her mated to some KC-99 wings and tail some day. This photo was taken in 1987 when several of our larger aircraft were being used to store parts so all of the extra stuff you can see laying around in the photo is no longer there.

Parts reclamation happened. That is what planes look like inside after AMARG, or MASDC as it was then, get done pulling everything for the save and demil lists. They aren't always this completely stripped but there are always a significant number of instruments and other pieces of equipment removed. If you see a Air Force display plane with a more complete cockpit it usually skipped DM entirely or has been put back together afterwards by someone else.
