Was he one of he 2-3 English guys who flew two Ansons to Africa for relief operations?
One crashed landed on the way and was abandoned somewhere, the other flew a few missions?

There is a book about their adventure, rather famous at the time.

He was from Arkansas I think. Not English, although he had a British wife back in 1974.
