Anybody have a picture of this in the new location? Nothing up on flickr yet!

Therefore camo trumps NMF.

Hello all,

The Smithsonian has put up quite a nice collection of photos on Flickr of the F-100 assembly and current display at Udvar-Hazy. Take a look.

F-100s were painted other than camo. My Dad worked one one of the very first ones in the late 50s during his brief time in the USAF and he only ever saw them in bare metal...

This is also true for a lot of types, but the B-25 is one that particularly springs to mind, seeing as there are probably about a dozen J models painted as Doolittle Raiders at the moment. I'd much rather see a colorful TB-25J/K/L/M scheme from the 50s for once than yet one more Raider bird, I'm sorry. It's not like no one has heard of the event by now.

Or the F-51H at Lackland painted as a D.

Cockpit shot on the flickr link looks great. Besides what I'll see if I follow the link to the airframe history on the NASM page, can anyone add to where this airplane has resided since leaving active duty??

The NASM F-100 was not flown into IAD but Andrews AFB in 1978. The aircraft was towed to the Garber Facility where it has been in storage.
The aircraft was disassembled and trucked to the new Hazy Center just weeks ago.

Yes, this was retired and placed into storage at Garber immediately after active service. It was assembled and in indoor storage throughout that time, so no real restoration work needed, just disassebly at Garber and reassembly at Udvar Hazy to go on display.

It would be nice to see the same happen for the SPAD, which has been in doone storage for about the same maount of time (originally traded from Tallichet).

Good point. Or how about the vast majority of Mustangs and B-17s that are now painted in 8th AF markings?
