Well THAT's cool!!! One question: am I wrong, or are those SEAC dk blue/light blue roundels and fin flashes on the Hurri?

I think I know what I want to do with my Hasegawa Mk I with the Vokes filter now. :)

Thanks for posting this!

Lynn

I have recently purchased back from a friend a project I commenced about 25 years ago..

It is a two thirds scale hawker hurricane built from plans by Fred Sindlinger in the USA

the airframe is about 70% finished and since re acquiring it I have been working on cockpit detail and have also bought a V6 conversion with prop speed reduction unit to power it. My intention is to complete this aircraft as V7476 as homage to our sole RAAF representative aircraft.

I have some Hurricane relics that I intend to incorporate as much as possible but am looking for period instruments in 3 1/8 inch or 2 1/4 inch as they are about 2/3 of the size of the original large British instruments.

I intend to use an original P8 compass from Canada that was allegedly from a hurricane but I have no provenance to confirm this.

If anyone can assist with donations however minor for this project I would appreciate it very much. I still have a couple of years work to go but the fuselage and tail plane are basically complete, the centre section and retractable gear well advanced and the wing skeletons well under way. I am fitting cowls at the moment while I await the engine to arrive.

I also need a serviceable hydraulic hand pump if anyone has one to spare, as I intend to use this to operate the landing gear, rather than the chain driven hand wheel originally intended off this scale replica, to be a little more in keeping with the original which has a convoluted flap and gear operating system

Cheers

Have pics but can't make them stick

Hi Lynn,

These are not SEAC roundels which are, as you correctly stated, dk blue/ lt blue but late war RAAF roundels which are essentially geometrically the same but are Dk blue and white. They differ from the earlier type with the red removed which were a lighter shade of blue and had a thinner blue ring and large white circle centre. These are specific to RAAF aircraft only and differ from the SEAC spec which was more widely ranged and applied to RAF aircraft. Late war RAAF mustangs also carried these RAAF specific dk blue and white roundels and fin flashes.

Back in the 90s, I purchased an aviation collection from a Melbourne collector.
One of the items was the original tail wheel assembly from V7476.
As a first timer on this site, I am having trouble loading an image.
Can anyone help?
