I don't know about the 718, but I was always told a story of caution about an F-111 pilot who sat under the airplane to escape some rain and inadvertently had left the rad alt on. The story goes that the dose of energy caused him to die days later. No idea if it's true, but worth looking into if you end up powering up some of this old gear.
