For anyone with some time on their hands.... a google earth project. My 2nd cousin's B-24 crashed on a night training mission "15 miles N.E." of the Casper Wyoming Army Air Base, just S.W. of the Cole Creek oil field near the town of Glen Rock" per the USAAC accident file. The aircraft belly landed and slid 500 feet. According to a local resident who is now dead, the ground scars from the propeller strikes and airframe were still visible in the open prairie a few years ago. My relative was the pilot and he and the copilot were en-route to the bomb bay to bail out when the acft hit the ground. Both were crushed by the top turret. The investigator said that they would have survived if they had remained in the cockpit. The rest of the crew bailed out successfully. I will PM the accident report to anyone who is interested in staring at their computer screen for a few hours to try and locate the exact crash site. I tried, but I don't have the patience.

Don't have the software installed, but a quick google + airnav
search says:

Travolta keeps his 707 at "Jumbolair" (airport ID = 17FL)

Airnav says the lat/long is:

In the number 2 pic at Collings, check the bottom right of the picture, it looks like to me that a 2 engine radial sat there running dripping oil and blowing oil out behind it, is that a possibility? If so, what blows that much oil to be seen from space?

I see im not the only one to have discovered the joys (and addicitiveness!!!) of google earth. its good to see some of those interesting finds other people have posted :D

Using the tilt and scroll features you can pretend that you are on approach to a secret airbase in the Nevada desert....



Not that I did, of course. I only use it for serious research.
