The gliders were flown (ferried) from one base to the other, from factories to training bases, etc. Flying CG-4A, CG-13A, CG-15A, XCG-10A, XCG-17 etc. from Clinton County AAF or Wright Field in Ohio to Laurinburg-Maxton, NC for tactical testing was routine. The XPG-1 was towed/flown from Minn, MN to WF Ohio. The first XPG-2 flew under its own power from NJ to WF Ohio. Because of the mountain altitude, they had to fly it up the Hudson River, along Lake Erie then down to Dayton. There also were a few semi trailers built for carrying the gliders and wings (with wings removed) on short hauls.

The gliders were shipped overseas in FIVE crates, not 3.

RE the photo of the bomber carrying the "glide bombs". This looks to me to be a B-24 with single tail.

Ford built one of these single tail B-24 at Willow Run. It must have been sent to the Navy where it was modified for use in glide bomb tests??
