Sorry Lon, but that is the wish of the Gentleman who owns the bird. Honestly, I am happy it never flew with the last batch of mods as I am not sure it would have ended well. It has a true military though non-combat history and it will represent the Navy well.

I can't say it's Sanders Aeronautical , but I do know Chuck Greenhill's Corsair was missing that & was in need of one. Also, last I saw, Ex- Howard Pardue's -4, 97302 was back in one piece and ready for final stage of restoration. And Ex-Ray Adams -4 is still under restoration with parts of other Corsairs. Oh ! And the Yanks (?) Have a -4 under resto. Just saying

There is an FG being restored in Livermore Ca and I remember maybe 2 in Santa Rosa Ca.

This Corsair has a very anemic history as a racer. Fastest time was 364 mph and it raced successfully 3 times in a 7 year span. It's far more significant as a warbird and Navy history. I hope we can finally put this to rest as it's going back to stock condition.

Well put David and I for one am most happy to see it returned to stock. Not only was it not successful as a racer but it was pretty well butt ugly too! My opinion of course.

David , if you can, could you please explain what was done to the tail wheel section, and how it will be rectified. Thank You, Tony

Oh! Sorry David, I should have explained, I read that the tail wheel assembly & doors were modified to be flushed instead of having the original Corsair tail wheel "bump"(?) look.

Hi Tony,
The tailwheel doors were returned to stock by opening up the doors for the tailwheel to extend through. The cable that held the tailwheel from extending all the way was removed and now all is back to stock. We're not currently going to put the tail hook back in or open up the tail hook doors. We may do that in the future.
