Yes, I was lucky enough to count Mark as a friend.

Model Mustangs were produced for the film, however what you see in the movie, with the exception of one scene (where a Mustang is producing smoke if I recall correctly) is all real P-51 footage.

It's been a long time since I seen the movie but didn't The Blue Max have numerous dog fight scenes?
