on the contrary!!! more b-24's survived as fire bombers, but were scrapped more in the majority over all!!!

I hadn't heard of B-24s used as fire bombers before. PB4Y-2s sure, but not B-24s.

I am pretty sure that there were more B-17s used in civil service as firebombers/sprayers overall... here are just the some survivors today that were firebombers/sprayers:

"Aluminum Overcast" - EAA - Fmr Sprayer
"Yankee Doodle II" - Barksdale AFB - Fmr Firebomber
"Gremlins Hideout" - Eglin AFB - Fmr Firebomber
"Memphis Belle" - David Tallichet - Fmr Firebomber
N66571 - NASM (former Kolb) - Fmr Firebomber
44-83868 - RAF Hendon - Fmr Firebomber

Additionally Scott Thompson's excellent book "Final Cut" lists in Appendix 6 that 23 B-17s were converted for USFS work as tankers, 16 of which are still displayed, in storage, or flying today (some listed above). Most were saved by Aero Union, Globe Air, TBM inc. and Black Hills Aviation. I think this still outweighs the former Hawkins & Powers fleet pf PB4Ys.
