Thanks for the help in clarifying it for me. Although I must admit, I hadn't heard the part about the B-25 in question. Nice story all around. Is the Mitchell, at some point anyway, a viable project down the road or is it too far gone in respect to being a "parts" aircraft for other restorations ?

I thought I herd somewhere that the germans had built undergroud hangers and after the war the allies found some of the hangers and tourched the a/c inside.

The person behind this bollocks should be tied to a tree a lashed with a rather large twig!
We hear crappy rumours almost yearly. Last year there was a new "find", a cache of latewar fuelled and loaded Luftwaffe aircraft in undergound hangers @ Tempelhof Airport in Berlin.
There was another story too about an underground facility somewhere in Germany too. If these existed they would have been accessed years ago as a complete latewar German fighter would be worth twice as much as an Allied one probably.

Probably the most decent German airframe found recently was the Fw Weihe found at the bottom of the French lake, non?

...If you haven't heard a good rumor by 10:00 AM, start one. Here's one. About 10 years before I was born, about 15 miles from my house, there was a 3000 foot grass strip which had crates of B17 parts, a few Wildcats, and a B17, C47 or two. This is absolutely true, no lies, and confirmed by several aviators. But I'm not telling where it is...

Now that this is on line, it must be true, right? Because nobody ever posted anything on the internet that wasn't true?

Man, this is just like the boy scouts. Now how about doing a skit about "The Secret Papers," or a game of soggy cookie?

No doubt that lots of rumours abound on the internet, altough I do believe this particular subject began with an add in Trade-A-Plane. An internet rumour and a bogus (assuming it is bogus) add are quite distinct animals.

I'm very sceptical but why put an add in TAP as it is very expensive. Probably end up some scammer trying to get you to send money up front to rip you off. Don

I, too, find this Bf-109 story hard to believe.

Still, I remember when the rumors that somebody was going to tunnel under a glacier and recover new P-38's and B-17's sounded preposterous.

I called Trade-A-Plane today and asked for a spec sheet on an ad that had C/o trade a plane on it and she said "You mean the Messerschmitt?" I said have you had a lot of calls and she laughed and said "uh, Yeah!" . Basically you mail a request for info with your phone number, and the owner will call you at his leisure to discuss the aircraft offered.

None of the Crossville Gals ever asked me for proof.

But then, I never had anything fancy for sale.

Treat this like any other “Blind Ad” in a print publication.
