I think I've purchased some items before from this person on ebay you mentioned. He has some unique items and I'll send him a message to see what he has. $50,000 is a bit steep...even for a ball turret. Most of the prices I've seen tossed out there for a fully restored ball turret hovered around $30,000-$35,000...but then again??!

A bit steep, indeed! If I recall correctly, suposedly the turret was still in the original crate

B-29Gunner,

I'm wondering if this is the turret that was purchased by Don Brooks not too long ago for one of his projects. Harland Avezzie was working on a recast ball turret project for Don. Supposedly Don acquired a complete original ball turret from somewhere and therefore did not need the recast turret anymore which is why it went up for sale.

It's a room filled with 225+ 55 gallon drums of assorted Emerson turret parts. It's leftover small parts and tooling from the factory, mostly WWII Emerson, Martin, and Sperry stuff (some items still have NOS tags) but also lots of P2V turret parts and even a pile of Emerson 128 bow turret bits. I would like to see this stuff go to flying aircraft projects and collectors but my primary competition is a Chinese scrap buyer who would very much like to melt the stuff down. In the end, I don't care who gets the stuff, just so long as it's not a smelting operation. I'll post some photos if it all works out. Keep your fingers crossed.

Holy sheight! I would definitely be interested in any tooling or dies that's in there. DO NOT let the scrap man win! If it looks like you may not get this stuff, let me know and I'll do everything I can to help you save this stuff!!!!

Underground member here!

Though, I'm into RAF/RCAF types.

Turret parts of any type are very hard to find. I finally found a second pair of controls for one of our FN121 turrets last week on Ebay.

I personally don't know the whereabouts of any ball turret parts, but I came across these Ebay auctions earlier in the week:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/B-17-AIRCRAFT-BALL-T ... dZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.ca/B-24-Liberator-Bombe ... dZViewItem

I think everyone wishes that they could find a warehouse full of parts for whatever they are looking for. I also think that the thrill of the hunt is just as exciting too, but only if you have the time!

I wish you luck!

Regards,

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the tips! I usually check ebay on a regular basis and every now and then I'll come across some unique or hard to find ball turret items. Given the scarcity of parts, I've already accepted the fact that this will be a 10 to 20 year search that will probably never end. But like you said...the hunt is also part of the fun (and frustration).
