In the case of the Tigercat the primer switch broke. It was then bodged by some half wit. Took me an hour to undo the bodge & 5 minutes to fix it correctly.

Looks pretty standard to me.
25 years ago, we were working the ramp at a show and a Corsair started to get a fire up inside the belly on starting. The ARFF crew saw it and was waving to stop so they could put it out. My guy handling the ground duties signaled the pilot to keep cranking and waved the ARFF crew off. The crew was NOT happy, but the engine finally caught and the fire blew out. I went over and explained what the procedures are in that situation. If they stopped the start sequence, and waited for their truck to move over, it would not have been good for the Corsair.

Its just what engines do, when they burn flammable fuel. There is always an exhaust flame, you just can't always see them because of the length of or restrictions in the exhaust system.
Even when very lean mixture there will be an exhaust flame, but you will need very short stacks if any to see them.
