1. It's painted as a P-47D-4-RA, but is actually a P-47D-15-RE, which was donated by Republic in 1964.

2. Neel Kearby's Fiery Ginger IV

3. The actual one crashed in PNG, the picture is of a P-47 painted up as Kearby's plane, with the actual tail and one of the .50's on display next to it at the USAF museum.

Exactamundo my friend. Sounds like you may been to the museum in recent times huh? Am I right?

Obivously that was too easy. I was figuring people would have to go and figure out how many pilots had 22 kills and which ones flew Thunderbolt and so on and so forth.....

Oh well it will only galvanize me to come with more tougher Photo "What Is It?"s

Carry On until the next inspection

Yeah, I was there about three weeks ago. I thought, hmmm, that razorback with a bunch of japanese kill marks looks familiar...

And sure enough, I had an almost identical photo on my computer that I took.

Looks like a Ham Standard 2B30 mounted on a Lycoming R-680, Stearman?

Thu Nov 23, 2006 4:20 pm

Nope, not a Stearman......but atleast you're on the right path. It is a Lycoming R-680-9

BT-13??

Thu Nov 23, 2006 8:37 pm

No BT-13 they had P&W 985s. A LYC could be a L-1 or a N3N?

Thu Nov 23, 2006 10:09 pm

Negatory on BT-13, L-1 or N3N

Nope

Perhaps I'm being unfair asking you all to ID an air craft based on an engine used on many types. Here ya go.
