sounds as if the russkies needed to hone their target aiming skills. with those hit score results we had nothing to fear during the cold war!!

Roughly what Hitler thought in '41. He had his mind changed in four short years.

Russia (and Germany) were not primary Naval orientated military nations. However Russia proved that they could knock Germany out of the war even with a major technical handicap. I think they'd have learned to play navies if they'd had to, and quite efficiently as well.

Patton wanted to roll straight on into Russia in '45. He'd have got a shock.

Are we off topic yet?

Thanks a bunch Dave! What a great link! I wish I had a better grasp of
the German language to read Kalli's history of the GZ and the subsequent
sinking. The photos that Scheer provided were most enlightening as to
the weapons test/evaluation of GZ. Like I said, my German is poor...but
I got the impression Kalli was quoting from a Russian website of which
Scheer was the originator.

It took brass-ones to go back aboard GZ to photo the damage incurred
during the test...thinking about possible unexploded weapons about in
at-sea conditions. One of the photos sheds some light on one of the stories
floating about in regards to the GZ recieving a bomb from the air straight
down her smokestack...going by the photo the bomb was trussed-in and
set off.

Must find a friend to translate. I'd do the babelfish thing, but it usually is
gibberish in the important bits. Thanks!
