Well, as far as "spare time" is concerned, I don't really have much of that. I did the engine install on the Sea Fury because I love that airplane and have spent many, many hours working on it in the past, plus I wanted to make sure it got back in the air in time for the CAF Airshow. I took the engine off in May 2003 and I was going to make dang sure I was the one to put it back on.
The 3 1/2 year thing is a touchy subject. Sometimes engine overhaul shops have some troubles getting an engine out in a short period of time. This is one of those cases. The engine I put on is not the one I took off, as it is still not quite finished. The Sea Fury Sponsor Group for the CAF raised the funds to get an overhauled engine from another shop that had one ready.
