If you gt a chance read R.E Peppy Blounts Book "We Band of Brothers" about his exploits in the 345thBG. One of the missions he recounts he brought back B-25 after hitting a Japanese ship's mast on his attack run. A great book.

44-29766 - was there a name and nose art on its other side? And yes, that's Pat Coleman's P-38L 44-25627 on escort duty.

Bump to compliment the current B-25 thread.

BTW, does anyone have a period photo of the "Apache Princess" that Kermit's B-25 represents?

Ken

Here's one... I think the SDASM may have another on their flickr pages, perhaps Mark has it...

Little trivia:

B-25 was inspired by and in response to the Do-17!

Interesting theory. Is there any documentary corroboration for this?

Yes, their is. :)

(and for the life of me cannot remember which book says it, but I know it clearly said NAA reacted to Do-17)

geek which came first? the chicken or the egg?
I'd like to see that as well. pop2 .as the DO17 production began in 1936, the NA40 began in the late 30's and the NA62 (B-25) project began in 1939 with the loss of NA40.. The NA62 (B-25) project was a redesigned version of NA40 which led to the "B-25" which was bought by the government right off the drawing board with no production model produced for evaluation.
